Special Envoy, UNHCR
Angelina Jolie is Special Envoy of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees at the UN Refugee Agency, UNHCR. She focuses on major crises resulting in mass population displacements and undertakes diplomatic advocacy on behalf of the High Commissioner. In nearly 20 years with the Agency, she has carried out over 60 field missions to refugees worldwide. She is co-founder of the Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict Initiative, a campaign to end impunity for the use of rape as a weapon of war, and a Visiting Professor in Practice at the Centre for Women, Peace and Security at the London School of Economics and Political Science. She writes a column on international issues for TIME magazine, where she is a Contributing Editor, and is Executive Producer of a new global current affairs program for young people by the BBC World Service, designed to boost media literacy among the young. She is the co-author with Amnesty International and Geraldine Van Bueren QC of a new book on youth rights - Know Your Rights and Claim them - to be published in fall 2021.
