H.R. McMaster is the Fouad and Michelle Ajami Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution, the Susan and Bernard Liautaud Fellow at the Freeman Spogli Institute and Lecturer at the Graduate School of Business, Stanford University. He is also Distinguished Visiting Fellow at Arizona State University. He serves as the Japan Chair at the Hudson Institute and Chair of the Center for Military and Political Power at the Foundation for Defense of Democracy. He retired from the U.S. Army as a Lieutenant General after thirty-four years of service. He holds a B.S from the United States Military Academy and a PhD in history from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is author of Dereliction of Duty and Battlegrounds: The Fight to Defend the Free World.
