Sen. Heitkamp is the first female senator elected from North Dakota. Sen. Heitkamp grew up in a large family in the small town of Mantador, North Dakota. Alongside her six brothers and sisters, she learned the value of hard work and responsibility, leading her to choose a life of public service. She has quickly become a proven senator who works across the aisle to fight for North Dakotans, showing that if senators work together, it can lead to real solutions. Sen. Heitkamp sits on the Agriculture, Indian Affairs, Banking, Small Business, and Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs committees. She previously served as North Dakota’s Attorney General, and prior to that as the state’s Tax Commissioner.
