Former U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security

Kirstjen Nielsen served as the sixth secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Secretary Nielsen led and oversaw approximately 250,000 personnel in executing the vast array of DHS missions. She previously held senior government positions at the White House and DHS, helped start up the Transportation Security Administration and worked on the staff of Senator Connie Mack III. She was the founder and president of Sunesis Consulting, a private consulting rm focused on risk, cybersecurity and resilience, was
the General Counsel and president at another consultancy, Civitas Group, and practiced law at Haynes and Boone. Secretary Nielsen served various roles in think tanks and non- governmental organizations including serving as the chair of the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council on Risk and Resilience. She is a Member of the State Bar of Texas and holds a B.S. in Foreign Service from Georgetown University and a J.D. from the University of Virginia’s School of Law.
